原白頭翁素（英語：protoanemonin），又稱白頭翁腦（英語：anemonol^[3]）或白頭翁內酯。是一種存在於所有毛茛科植物的有毒物質。在化學結構上，原白頭翁素是4-羥基-2,4-戊二烯酸的γ-內酯^[4]。當這些植物受傷或受到浸漬時，體內的不穩定糖苷類物質毛茛苷（英語：ranunculin）會被酶降解糖苷鍵形成葡萄糖和有毒的原白頭翁素^[5]。

當皮膚和粘膜觸碰到這些受傷植物時會造成發癢、皮疹或起水泡。攝入原白頭翁素則會造成噁心、嘔吐、眩暈、頭暈、痙攣、急性肝炎、黃疸或癱瘓^[6]^[7]^[8]。

不過對這些植物進行乾燥處理時，原白頭翁素與空氣接觸並二聚為白頭翁素（英語：Anemonin），並進一步水解為無毒的二羧酸^[5]^[9]。
