巴芬島苔原狼（Canis lupus manningi）是灰狼的一個亞種，它僅棲息在巴芬島和附近的幾個島嶼上[2]。1943年，安德森將其它進行分類，並成為了一個獨立的亞種[3]。在分類學參考書世界哺乳動物物種第三版中，巴芬島苔原狼被認為是狼的亞種[4]。
生理學[編輯]
描述[編輯]
與其他狼亞種相比，巴芬島苔原狼被描述為淺色，有時是白色的，而且異常小。它被認為是所有北極狼中最小的，目前瀕臨滅絕[3][5][6][7]。
歷史[編輯]
早期的記錄和證據表明，格陵蘭西部的狼是從巴芬島遷徙到那的，因此是巴芬島狼亞種的後代[6]。
1966年，對巴芬島狼進行了一項研究。一年前，多倫多大學於1965年在沃爾迪灣進行了初步評估，當中也獲得了大學學生的幫助[8]。
